I was only thinking there the other day about what would be a fair accommodation in terms of incinerators/dumps/gas terminals etc going near your house. Everyone objects to these things, but society needs them. Yet nobody wants them in their back yard.
So how about this – if you live near a dump/power plant/ gas terminal etc. you get a percentage reduction eg. 30% for life on those bills. Consequently if your locality refuses these facilities even though the planning process has granted permission for them you get levied an extra 30% on top of your bills for not sharing societies burden.
Of course this assumes a fair planning process with no political interference. It also assumes that these dumps/ incinerators/ gas terminals etc.. are built to the safest standards.
We all produce waste, we all use gas, oil and electricity. We need to take responsibility for that.
