Last week my brother went into one of the main banks to lodge a considerable sum of money, that exceeds the government bank guarantee.
Immediately he was approached by the manager who wanted to speak to him about making good on the funds and suggested that government bonds were the best and safest place for his money.
He told the manager that he had plans on lodging the money for a small period of time with the bank and then transferring it to the UK, as he had no confidence here.
The manager tried to sign him up to all and sundry but he refused.
So my question is, is money safer in a UK bank than it is here?
