Sending Mobile Phone by post

I bought a mobile phone through an Amazon supplier in the uk. The phone is faulty, and I have arranged to return it. Packaged it all up and took it to the post office, but I was told An Post will not take anything with a battery in it, due to restrictions on planes.

Told them that it came by airmail, but they were not budging.

It is an iPhone, & so I cannot easily remove the battery.
Would anybody know an alternative way to return my faulty iPhone ?

I wonder what would happen if you just buy the relevant stamps at the PO, then stick them in the envelope, then drop the envelope in the post box. Or find a different PO maybe.

Courier by sea was an option, but went to a different post office, and sent back with a wish and a prayer.

UK does not have same regulations, sounds like overkill from An Post
