I heard Fianna Fáil's Senator Margaret Cox on the radio yesterday say that she would be introducing a private members bill which would outlaw those additional credit card charges so beloved of event organisers and airlines. She maintains that charges associated with credit/debit card transactions be integrated with the total cost of the goods/services in the same way as cash handling costs are not seperated.

See here for details (subscription may be required).

In the (today fm mat cooper ?) radio discussion the senator was fairly good, the representative from the consumers association was poor and clearly was not on top of his brief. A third industry representative "played dirty" and accused the senator of siding with the banks and the cc companies when pressed to justify these additional charges.

I think that the "Credit Card Surcharge Abolishment Bill" will find many supporters here.
