Selling shares

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm looking for some advice on the best way to sell shares.

A family member invested in some on a tip some years ago. She bought shares at 5 cent. They are now worth over €3.

She wants to sell about half of them to raise some cash. What is the most cost effective and efficient way to do this?

The advice thus far has been to open an online account and sell that way to reduce the commission fee.

Is that the best option? Who would be the best to go with and what rate should she expect?

Also what are the tax implications in selling shares?

I will be looking all this up now, but I reckoned the knowledgeable posters on here would cut straight to what I'm going to find out now after some research on the issue.

Thanks.

just bumping this up a bit... I would like to sell my Elan shares which are worth half what I paid for them. I dont want to set up an online account or anything, I just want to sell the shares and take the money. What's the easiest way to do that?
