Maybe somebody could help me with the following....

What is the procedure for making an insurance claim following a fairly serious house fire?

Do we get quotes for the repairs and submit them to the insurance for approval or do they decide how much they will pay us?

If a certain amount for repairs is agreed between us and the insurance, are we then bound to go back to the original builders who submitted the quote to get the work done or are we free to shop around/ do bits ourselves etc?

Suppose we want to make changes other than restoring the house to exactly as it was before (maybe an extention or move around the rooms etc) at the same time, how does that work with the insurance company?

Thanks in advance for any info

if it is a 'fairly serious' fire, then immediately on reporting, you will be informed that a loss adjuster will be appointed. Their job is to get a fair settlement to both. You are entitled to be put back in the position you were before the fire, not any better, not any worse. If you have concerns, speak to the adjuster or get your own loss assessor on the job.
