My car was damaged recently in a neighbouring farmer's yard, there was no issue over liability and his insurers wrote to me informing me of same. I rang them today and asked how payment was to be made. I was told that a cheque would be paid either directly to the garage or directly to me on supply of an invoice from the garage.
Is this usual? Is it not my decision whether I want to repair the car (its purely cosmetic damage) or to continue driving it in it's damaged and reduced-value state? I would have thought that when the value of the damage is agreed by the assessor, that cheque would be issued to me to do with as I please.
