As I am retired I have the time and patience to do this, wouldn't suit everyone though, I mean instead of renewing my policy when it expires (end of September) and if weather is fairly benign or settled, watch forecasts which I do anyway and only renew if anything threatening coming down the line.

Could gain a month or two in any one year with no need for insurance and over say 10yrs may only have to pay for 8yrs insurance.

Insurance/Policy wise, are there any drawbacks in doing this and not having continuous insurance.

If something happens when you're uninsured, then you're uninsured! It might not just be a weather related item, it could be the postman falling in the driveway, a branch of a tree falling, a windowcleaner injured - its the liability aspect that could ruin you!

You might have a fire - electical or a candle or a BBQ.

Don't be pennywise and pound foolish
