Proliferation of SUVs and second hand car market

More attention on the size and weight of SUVs in urban settings following the Paris SUV levy. This can't be good for the second hand market as it looks like more attention by legislators on the size and weight of cars, car tax used to be based on the size of car engines which disincentivized buying large, vehicles paradoxically this was changed in 2008 by the Green coalition government. This increased dramatically the sale of big heavy SUVs

You can't pin the world wide shift to heavy SUVs on the Irish governments move to car tax based on emissions!

And green coalition? The greens have always been by far the smaller party in the coalition. Was it the PDs coalition before that?

The Greens are heading for oblivion in the next election.

Yes - and with this the populist short term thinking of the other parties will ensure that no progressive policies are put forward. The proliferation of SUVs and the second hand car market will not be an issue.

Our quality of life will suffer.

More cars. More pollution. More noise. More obese kids and adults. More traffic. More quality of life?

Or just spend the money that is saved by not buying a second hand SUV on something worth while.
As if relentless cost-of-living rises are good for kids' and adults' health.

No one has suggested that.

I suggested spending money elsewhere as opposed to on cars that are getting bigger, heavier and more expensive every year.

And yes - most need cars. Just not as many or as big as they currently are.

And the strange thing is, most of these bigger cars have less space inside. My SIL has a Tuscon and the boot is tiny.

The Greens in government have made transport and logistics much more expensive, which in turn has pushed up the cost of essential goods.
If the next government reverses this, our quality of life will improve.

Will you mention the costs reductions implemented by the Greens and will they be reversed also?

Child care and public transport.
The costs of both have actually ballooned. This has been obscured by the fact that the taxpayer is picking up more of the tab - for now.

The cost of producing and transporting goods have also ballooned.

Green policies have this far worse than it should have been.

It's amazing how the minority party is bullying the two parties that have been in government since the formation of the state rendering them powerless.

Let’s be fair here. Transports and logistics costs have done nothing but increases in general over the last 40 years.

Oil prices
Vat and duty on same
Carbon taxes
As well as a plethora of other costs that are factored into the overall price of doing business in that industry.

The Green Party have not been in government for all of the last 40 years.
