Private health cover in the West

Hi I wonder could anyone advise me of the best cover for my elderly parents in a Mayo.
They have good cover with Laya but it included the Mater Private/Beacon/Blackrock and I know they would never ever use these hospitals so need them removed.
They need good cover for their age late 70's so I guess good osteo, cardio, oncology, lungs...
Anyone seen a good plan for their age group?

Anyone? I think they can't remove the Dublin hospitals, can't choose by location apparently!
 
You need to find a policy that includes the Galway Clinic - are you sure they would never use the Dublin hospitals? They each have specialists located there - Mater would be particularly good for heart for instance.

Generally the policies will include some of the hi-tech hospitals, not sure where the Galway Clinic fits into that.
 
Dermot Goode gives advice on radio from time to time on best policies - if you check Newstalk website you can listen to the playback. If you opt for a small excess per claim you can reduce the costs. They would need access to the Bon Secours in Galway and the Galway Clinic .

Good of you in doing this for your parents as so many older people are left to sort things by themselves. First of all I would look at where your parents might be having any problems at the moment. Have they joint problems, eg, hips, knees, etc? Do they have blood pressure issues, heart problems or similar? Have they breathing or lung issues, kidney, liver or similar, or any genetic disorders their parents or siblings suffered from? As you go through the different ailments they might be suffering from (or maybe they've been lucky and don't have any) tick off the ones that they don't have any problems with as more than likely they won't crop up now and, suit your policy to the sickness's they might have issues with and see where that gets you. There's a cardiac centre of excellence in the GUH (Galway university hospital) with great service and treatments in all places in Galway, along with the Galway clinic too.
