previous insurers want details of new co.

I've recently changed my car insurance because i got a better deal, now the previous company want to know what my new quote is, and the name of the ins co.
I've changed before, but this is the first time I've been asked for these details.
Am I obliged to tell them, or are they just trying for market research?

I have never been asked this before. I think they probably want to know for market research and to see who is out pricing them.

I dont think your obliged to tell them if you dont want to.

On the other hand they might want to know how much because they intend to match that amount or be cheaper so you will stay with them.

Ask them why they want to know, might get a better deal for yourself.
