I found an old entry here about PMPA shares.
Brendan pointed out that they are of no value but he mentioned Capital gains tax.
I bought 1500 of these shares in 1979 /1980 and I understand they went flat about 1983.
Can I still use the loss for CGT and if so has anyone any idea of the approximate price of them in 1979 or 1980.

AFAIK, these used to be sold direct by PMPA to investors/policyholders. The main perk was that shareholders got a discount on insurance premium. Again, AFAIK, the price was 50p. However, please don't hold me to that.

Hi Sole

Yes, you can use the losses.

There is some odd rule which I nearly fell foul of. If you intend to use them this year, you must notify Revenue this year. You can't just claim the losses when doing the tax return.
