I worked in the public sector for 5 years and recently became self employed and now want get back my pension contributions is this possible? My previous HR department seem very un helpful?

I don't think that you can. I think under Pensions Law if you have over 2 years service done, then you can't get a refund of your contributions. Did you get a leaving service options letter?

So what are my options so. I didn't get a leaving service options letter.
Ask them (in writing) for a leaving service options letter. You may be able to transfer your service into a new pension scheme. The letter will outline your options.

I am learning so much today!! The Pension trustees are sending me a "leaving service options "letter.Thank you for advice to all above, Now Can ye tell me what is a buy out bond??

A Buy Out Bond is a lump sum pension policy, into which you can transfer a pension fund from a previous Occupational Pension Scheme.
