Loft insulation - can you have too much?

Since there are some good deals going in the likes of B&Q and Homebase I was considering buying some insulation to fit before the winter sets in.

I checked my loft and there seems to be a decent amount of insulation already in place.

I heard someone in work say recently that you can have too much insulation - is this true?

not really.

insulation simply slows down the rate of heat loss....

but like most things it suffers from diminishing returns. The more you reduce the rate of heat loss, the more other factors become important, such as air leakage, heating efficiency etc.

personally i would see 400mm as the most you should install. and install correctly!!

Fully agree with the above, it maybe worth while checking for drafts etc and perhaps looking at insulating external walls if needed.
