January getaway

Looking to go away for two to three weeks in January. Something like a week in one city then move on and do week elsewhere. Once I have decent chance of mostly dry weather with little rain. At moment have Portugal in mind Lisbon Porto something like that. Like to walk a lot. Any suggestions advise would be welcome.
Not interested in the likes of Canaries etc. Thanks.

Heard from friends who get away in Jan / Feb and Malta was one place that came up a few times as a place to visit - small area, so can walk around and see a lot. They were lucky with the weather for the few days they were there, no rain and sun was out...
