Motor insurance on madza mx5

my husband is currently trying to renew insurance on Madza mx5. last year his insurance was E500 and this year he is been quoted E1200. has anyone any idea why this is and would anyone outthere know if there is any insurance company that specialise in sports car insurance

Insurance firms are not shy of chancing their arm with renewal quotes so €1200 I assume is their renewal. You will have to try getting other quotes yourself/from broker to see can you get a better price and go back to them with this information. €1200 is crazy for an MX5 IMO, after all its only a 1.8 with about 130BHP, does he have any points?
 
no he has no points. he also has another car opel astra 1.4 and brokers are advising him to cancel policy and transfer no claims bonus and then renew insurance for the astra again. he has tried 123.ie and a few more today and they are all coming in with the same quotes all around E1000 and E1200
 
after checking out more insurance companies for quotes, it seems that he is been penalised for insurance because the car is an import. don't know why this was a problem last year. does anyone know any insurance company that specialise in insurance for imported cars
