Insurance on Credit Card

My husband got a credit card, and when ringing to activate the account was asked did he want insurance. He was told it was 25 euros per month. So he agreed.

Then when statements started to come, we were billed 50 euros per month. As we have 2 cards on the one account, they are charging per card.

This was not explained when activating the cards, as the person selling the insurance was at the same time activating both cards.

We decided to write and cancel the insurance.
We received a letter saying that we were in a 12 month contract and that we couldnt just cancel!!!!!!

This was never explained in the telephone conversation and we did not sign any written agreement.

Is this legal?? Surely you have to give your agreeance to enter into a legal binding contract. We did not agree neither Verbally nor Written, therefore where do we stand?

Kind Regards
Caz
