Information sought on settlement of estate

Quick question folks. Has anyone a rough idea how long it takes for an estate to be settled on average? My father passed away last year without making a will. The solicitor I chose to handle the estate seems to be dragging his feet a bit. To me it seems to be a fairly simple estate, there is only myself and my sister.

Usually about a year for straightforward estates. However at times there can be backlogs in the CAT offices of the Revenue Commissioners and delays in certain Probate offices which might add to the delay.
