Hi,

I received 3 quotes from two brokers (lion and Cornmarket). Can you please advise which one seems the best value? Also I would appreciate if anyone can recommend any other brokers/insurance companies to check. I am finding it hard to assess tbh.

Based on €60,000 Gross; age 41 female, permanent public sector PAYE, non smoker, class 1: office based work. Work offers 3 months full paid and 3 months half pay for sick leave

Quote 1: 26 week deferral period;
€122.09 per monthGross
€73.25 per month Net
Till 66 years

Quote 2: Forsa Salary protection:
13 week deferral period
Life and Specified illness cover included (2 times gross salary death benefit)
1.94% = €44.62 per fortnight gross
1.38% = €31.74 per fortnight net
Till 67 years

I would have to join the FORSA to avail of this. For quote 1 and 2, these would be taken directly from my salary and no need to claim back the tax, which is a convenience.

Quote 3 (from one broker)
26 week deferral period
Royal London: €83.51 (€50.10 nett) per month
Zurich Life: €78.92 (€43.35 nett) per month
Till 66 years

I am looking for the best value-not necessarily the cheapest (but if it is that would be great). Do you think I need to shop around more as this is an ongoing cost till I retire. Thanks.

For comparison, here are the IP rates in my PS employer.

We have moved to an auto-enrolement system, so all staff are automatically enrolled.

That may have helped to reduce the premium?

We pay 0.86% of gross salary, and we get tax relief on that.

The benefits are up to 75% of salary less any other income.
