Importing cash & cheques

I live in the US and wish to bring cash and cheques into Ireland. Can anybody please let me know what restrictions customs and Irish Revenue place on this. Is it a maximum of E10,000 (including cash and cheques) or in cash only.

Ireland, like most other countries, no longer operates exchange controls so there should be no restriction on the amount of cash that you carry. I presume that there are no restrictions on carrying large amounts of cash etc. out of the USA? Obviously carrying large amounts of cash or other financial instruments has personal security implications! Also - when lodging large amounts of money in Ireland the normal [broken link removed] legislation/checks will apply.
