Hi

My husband was made redundant in Nov. Unfortunately no sign of a job yet.
Someone mentioned he might be entitled to claim back some tax for last yr in April.
Is this the case, if so how?
He received redundancy package in Nov.

just ring up your local tax office and ask them to check, he will get a p21 out in the post (balancing statement) and if he is entitled to tax back he will be told in that letter if he is due a cheque or not.
the reason he could be due tax back or anyone for that matter is that generally if one is paying tax they have it spread out over the 52wks in the year and if you dont work all the weeks then you are due tax back because you would have been overtaxed! everyone should do it for the previous year coz there is a number of different reasons as to why you could have been overtaxed! and i dont think you would need to wait until april, try it now.

Apart from a normal tax refund, if he received a redundancy payment, he may also be entitled to a 'Top Slicing Relief' refund, so he needs to ask for this also.
