I've a first dinner date this evening (Friday). Can anyone recommend somewhere in Dublin city centre or smithfield area that is inexpensive (but not cheap) that is "nice and cosy" (you get the idea..) and easy to talk. I have a partial hearing impairment so piped music ++or a band is a no no . Helpful if near luas red line.

Mulligan's? Not expensive but not cheap and the food is great. No music either (from memory) only other conversational noise. Like most places, likely to be busy on a Friday evening.

Perhaps one of the Tapas places around town ?

- they are generally a little less formal, have a bit of athmosphere and are not very expensive (so will suit a man from Cavan ;) :p)

Some of the places down around the Italian Quarter (beside the walk over Millennium bridge, on the northside of the River Liffey).

Good luck with the date !

If you haven't booked anywhere you could have trouble.

Downstairs in Fallon & Byrne is a nice set-up, lovely wine and you could get a cheese plate or charcuterie board which makes things less formal and more relaxed. Only thing is it could be jammers.

Piglet wine bar at the very far reaches of Temple Bar is a nice spot too though you'd need to book.
