Has anyone lived in Paris?

there is a strong likelihood I will be offered an 8 month contract in Paris (French speaking not required)

Has anyone actually lived there?

By my googling, getting accommodation seems really really difficult. I would be open to shared or my own place (I would have a reasonable budget accommodation)

I guess I'm just looking for general advice if anyone who has lived there.

I speak very little French (I did French in school 20 years ago). I know no one at all in France.

Lived there for 3 months on a work contract previously. Loved it. One bit of advice, if you're working in town and can walk from your accommodation then definitely do this over getting the metro. The metro is horrible (the smells alone, honestly!) but walking the streets of Paris, you'll just keep saying wow! I spent an hour each morning walking to work and came to work each day with a smile on my face!
