got cheque in post 'tax repayment from revenue?!

got cheque in post 'tax repayment from revenue?! for approx 4k.

i claimed last week on revenue on line for health expenses (med 1) and service charges for 2005, 2006 and 2007.

now there was no way that the benefit would total 4k!

so im wondering do they check your tax (kind of like if you ask for a balancing statement) when u claim your tax benefits/relief on health/service charges.....

i cud do with the money but dont want to spend in case they ask for it back....!

advice appreciated.

forgot to say that the bulk of the tax repayment was for 2007, that year i was away travelling for 3 months...

for the 9 months you weren't traveling were you paying tax like you would be earning 12 months wages? If so then maybe you overpaid and were entitled to money back. Yes, they do a balance check for tax paid when you submit med1. Id be happy and spend the money - woohoo!

Not really - it was your own money to begin with. Unexpected income from another source feels better (and means you're actually making money)!

ya i was workin/being paid as if for 12 months. did my calcs there and it all checks out!!
