Going on certs while on unpaid maternity leave?

Hi
I'm currently on unpaid mat leave and was wondering if I could claim ilness benefit with a doctors cert and if so would my employer be involved or would it be solely social welfare that would pay me?

If you are not fit for work and certified by the doctor as such, you can claim Illness Benefit based on your PRSI contributions. Your employer is not involved. You may be referred to a departmental doctor for a medical examination to determine your fitness to work, particualrly following a MB claim.
 
Would it not affect the reclaim of prsi that your employer need to fill up when you return to work?
