Any car Insurance shoppers. My experience this week.

Car is Toyota Corolla Cross 2.0 Hybrid. 2023
Me 61 retired. No penalty points. Full no Claims.
Wife 63. retired No penalty points. Full no claims.

Full Comp. Value of car 35000k

Shopped around and 123.ie @ 405.05 was best I could get.

Hello,

I found Aviva very competitive, this year.

I initially got a fully comp policy, on a similar size car, for just over €300.

Like you, I've a full NCB and no points (thankfully).

Will finish on this. Main comparison websites. Broker. Directly 6 companies. Most of f:po_Oull morning spent on quotes.
Lastly many quotes were over 500euro.
Happy hunting all.

I've literally just moved my motor insurance online to AIG. Comprehensive cover for married couple 69 and 65 was €327. 6 years NCB.

Currently on the hunt for realistically priced car insurance - second day of work! Last year KennCo was €352, renewal quoted €485 last week. Other than being a year older (myself and my car) which is an imported Nissan Note 1.2. Nothing has changed. I am 68, have full NCB, no accidents/endorsements/points etc. Adding my 37 year old daughter (who lives with me) I have been quoted oodles of figures from €999 down to the lowest of €437 with Allianz (via Quote Devil). Thinking I'm getting as good as I'll get. Curiously, Quote Devil is the only company/Broker out of over a dozen, that asked about an immobilizer (which my car has). Many wouldn't quote online.....

that asked about an immobilizer (which my car has).
Just to note ... Most or all vehicles sold since the late 90s have an immobiliser fitted as standard (Japanese imports are a common exception). I didn't realise this when first shopping for insurance a few years ago (late starter when it came to driving!) and was initially saying "no" because there was no mention of an immobiliser in the vehicle manual. Luckily I researched this and determined that it did have one so didn't end up penalising myself unnecessarily... ;)

Adding my 37 year old daughter
In my experience it's very unpredictable how adding named drivers will affect the premium. Sometimes it'll reduce it. Sometimes it'll increase it. The only way to find out is to shop around as widely as possible and (truthfully!) massage the input data as needed to try to get the best quote. If more than a few won't quote online then it might be an idea to check with a broker who deals with a wide range of underwriters to see if they can do better.

My insurance is up for renewal, 2 of us 61 & 62 full no claims, no points, etc. Both working, plus the 25 yr old daughter.
Car is a 2024 Hyaundi Kona, value €35K

Last year €557.47, this year €720.80 with Allianz. So I shopped around online

Aviva €443.25
123.ie €506.20
KennCo would not quote
AIG €791.90

Bonkers
Aviva €466.89
AIG €686.61
Zurich €749.70

So I went with Aviva directly fully comp plus a step back and €600 excess for a final figure of €487.91.

This thread inspired me to get those quotes in, but it is such a pain.

I have 18 companies listed in my annual shop-around spreadsheet. AIG quoted a renewal of €345 but applying as a new customer is €323. Only seventeen to go...

Insurance companies drive me demented!!

When renewing your house insurance, try Aviva as they will give you a 15% discount on your house insurance because of the car
And this time next year they'll also give you a 15% discount on the car if you have your house with them

If it was me I'd take that and forget about the calling the other 17,
I doubt very much you're going to get a cheaper policy that's worth the hassle of 17 quotes

I agree. And €323 is probably close enough to many insurers' minimum premiums so there may be little wriggle room for much in the way of further savings elsewhere. AIG's minimum premium is c. €290 including levy but many others have a minimum premium in the low €300s or even higher.

Thanks for this thread. Just check AIG myself as my insurance is due for renewal in a couple of week. I have been with Aviva for more than 10 years as I always got close to their minimum premium. AIG is cheaper for me at €330 with 300 excess (and less with higher excess).

Yes, and we get free travel insurance as we have house+car with them.

FWIW I got my AIG cover last year much cheaper via GetSetGo.ie than going direct to AIG.

I just tried getsetgo and found it very hard to input details. Couldn't get the 'ticks' to turn green. Also there were spelling mistakes... a strange interface. I stopped midway..

Not sure what you mean. I don't see any green ticks and don't have any issues filling in the form. Maybe it's an issue at your end.

Edit: I see the green ticks now but didn't have any problems filling in the quote form.
