Filing US Tax returns

Hi there,

I spent some time working the US last year and need to file my tax returns.I am wondering if anyone out there can confirm what forms I need to complete and where I would need to send these.

I was resident with an L1 Visa. So I think I should be filing Nonresident Alien Tax returns (form 1040NR).

Alternatively if anyone knows of an agency that will handle this for me for a reasonable fee (I found one but they charge 17%!)that would be great.

Cheers.

Claiming Tax back

I need to claim tax back from the US for 2005, does anyone know of a company that specialises in this - other than taxback.com as they charge 30% for 2005! Alternatively does anyone know I can complete it myself?

Re: Claiming Tax back

There is a firm in the UK who specialise in US tax returns:
www.ustaxfs.com
They will quote you a fee for submission of tax return - not refund based.

I worked for them a few years ago, so can reccommend them.

Re: Claiming Tax back

Hi Mops,

Last year I got my tax refund from taxback.com. They charged me with 30% as well as I worked in the U.S. in 2004.

In the beginning I was going to use the service of some other agency - can't remember the name - however they went bankrupt :D. Anyway using taxback wasn't that bad. in the beginning i applied with them just because I didn't knew other companies doing this and needed money. After registering a representative called me on the phone and explained me what to do. He also said that their fee is so high because they have an accountant in the U.S. who is checking all the claims or something like this. Got my money faster than I was supposed to receive it and the amount was a little bit higher than the promised.

Cheers!
