FE1 exams and traineeships

I am confused as to whether you sit the FE1 exams before your traineeship or do you study for your exams while working as a trainee?

You need to have acquired all of your FE1 exams before you can become an trainee in any law firm. A lot of people who have their law degree get employed by firms as interns and while they are getting experience in a law firm they also sit their FE1s in the hope of that same firm keeping them on to do their apprenticeship / traineeship.
