Can anyone tell me how I determine if I am SCALE A or SCALE B with reference to motor expenses.

Re: Determining PRSI scales?

I'm confusing myself....

[broken link removed]

This link gives the motor expenses rates and on the site it talks about Scale A and Scale B and Civil Service Rates.

I didn't see the civil service rates before so that's what I am using now. But how is scale A and B determined.

Re: Determining PRSI scales?

I can see why you are confused. Just glanced at the site that you gave a link to and it appears that Scale A or B is for local authorities and health. The Civil Service rates are the maximum that you can pay, if you wish to pay over you need to get authority from the Revenue Commissioners.

Scale A or B are not references to PRSI. Payments made under these are not subject to tax or prsi, they are net payments made for useage of private cars for work related matters, covering fuel, costs, and wear and tear. Hope this helps.

Re: Determining PRSI scales?

Ok - that did help. Thanks. I was afraid I had been over expensing on mileage.

If you are 'self employed' the mileage is on 'an incurred basis'. If you are an employee of a company, they can pay the civil service rates.
