Apologies if these answers are elsewhere, spent a while looking before posting:
My wife is on a 12 month contract of 11-hours a week with a VEC. there are deductions on her payslip for Pension, Pension Levy (was surprised these were two different things!) and Spouses and Children along with PAYE and USC. Altogether the deductions add up to nearly 20% of her gross, despite the fact she's earning very little on 11 hours.
I'm wondering if she should have to pay all these, or could claim any of it back in the future, as when this 12 months is up she might theoretically never get a job with the Dept of Education again. If not is she ever going to benefit from these deductions? I tried the ASTI website but couldn't find anything beyond 'these are the deductions'.
