Deadline for deciding tax treatment of married couple

Hi,

My wife and I are both not working at present but expect to be back to work later in the year. This means that we do not currently know what our respective incomes will be for 2014.

We are currently taxed as two single people.

I just looked at the (very confusing) information on the revenue site and it seems to say that we will need to decide on which tax treatment to go for by 31 March.

Is there any option that would allow us to retrospectively allocate tax credits and SRCOP's at the end of the year.

Many thanks,

3CC

If you elect for joint assessment then you can get the benefits of married credits and standard rate cut off at any point.
