Up until relatively recently, I had always believed that "it is good to have an account with the credit union". I suppose my folks, encouraging me to save in my teenage years, were the driving force behind this. Easy to obtain and low interest loans were cited as good reasons to be a member. However I did'nt set up an account until 2 years ago, have a few grand in it and a monthly contribution of €500.
My question is that giving the extensive range of both online and local branches paying a better rate than credit unions do, what's the point in saving with them? By the way I also have an account with Rabo and a BOI post SSIA savings account (both opened as a result of advice received in this forum).
