Coroners Inquest

My mother died recently of an unnatural sudden death and the post mortem results have resulted in us being granted a coroners inquest.

It was suggested to me that I should bring a solicitor with me on the day as they will have the experience in asking the right questions and we only get one shot at this.

I have found one in Cork that specialises in this area (Ernest Cantillon). Would anyone recommend to having a solicitor at the inquest and if so, does anyone know this one in particular?

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you are doing ok....

Have you any issues surrounding your Mums death (ie problems with medical care, issue re road safety etc) that you may need a solicitor?

The cororner only establishes how your Mum died, he/she does not blame anyone or apportion blame.

Initial findings might be attributed to medication that she was receiving on prescription and whether they were the right doses, etc.

If you do think that there is some sort of negligence/ misconduct, then a solicitor to ask the questions might be no harm. Especially if the inquest sheds light/supports the theory and you plan to take it further such as a civil case or complaint to the medical council.

Apologies, I don't know of any one down around the Cork area, I have only ever attended the Dublin Coroners Court.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.

Most solicitors who are involved in personal injuries litigatin would be able to represent you.

Get a complete file of statements and full hospital and mecial records. May need to get those reviewed by some one with medical knowledge.
