Our policy expires / falls due for renewal on 01.01.2017.

We want to cancel our policy with Laya once our policy terminates on 31.12.2016 and wish to avoid automatic renewal.

1. What is the notice period within which we must notify Laya that we do not want to renew with them ?

2. Is there any specific method by which notice must be served ?
 
You have 14 days after renewal to cancel without penalty or just write to them now to say that you do not wish to renew. You could also cancel your direct debit mandate with the bank
