Clearing off morgage

I plan to clear off the outstanding part of my mortgage. Does it matter if I pay it off at the end of this year or in 2016? Do I need to pay a solicitor to complete this?

The date you pay it off does not matter other than as soon as you pay it off, they stop charging interest.

No, you don't need a solicitor. You ask them for the outstanding balance. You pay it. And after a couple of weeks they let you know that the title deeds are ready for collection.
