Cleaning Wood floor

Hi ,

Having removed the badly smelling carpets from the house we recently bought we realised the spillages that presumably caused the smells have gone through the carpet and into the wood floor beneath. There are stains throughout which smell like dog pee and other things! Lovely.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone has tips on cleaning the timber floors. We are going to lay solid wood over but want to rid the place of any smells before covering up. I've read that a water and vinegar solution can be good when damp-mopped (not letting too much water get stay on the wood) Would appreciate any opinions or suggestions!
