Hi all, just a quick query on claiming tax back via med1 on eye laser surgery-

If the initial outlay is 3000,as charged by Optilase
1. and I can claim tax back at a rate of 41%,leaving me with a net bill of e1770..
2. Now, if my Vivas insurance pays for the first 1000,does this then mean that I claim back 41% of 2000,leaving me a net bill of 1180,
3. Or does it mean that I can claim back on the original 3000, and then receive the deduction fron my insurance.,leaving me with a net bill of (3000-41%)-1000, the final bill being 770

Has anyone claimed back taxes in this situation, and If so,what of the above scenarios was the correct one??

Thanks in advance,

daithi

The net MED1 claim is after any refund from medical insurers, so it would be ( 3000-1000 ) x 41% so tax relief is 820 net bill 2000-820= 1180. check out the MED1 claim form at [broken link removed]

Ignore the 125 excess if the claim is in 2007 as that's been abolished
