car insurance - change policy holders?

Anyone know is it possible to change policy holders after short time?

Basically i've bought first car which is in garage waiting to be collected. My prov licence has expired but as it's 3rd, i have to apply for test and get acknowledgement letter. I prob won't have my licence for few weeks. The plan had been for me to have policy in my name(as main user) with boyfriend as named. I want to know now if i could just have policy in his name until i get sorted and then switch to me as policy and him named as planned. He has company car so doesn't have any insurance in own name at moment.
All i want is to get the car out of the garage!
any ideas or help would be so appreciated. Thanks
 
If you are going to be the main user of the car, why don't you just get the insurance in your own name now? Insurance company won't ask for sight of driving licence (particularly as it's a provisional so lying wouldn't benefit you). Boyfriend can drive car home from garage as a named driver - as he has a a company car, ins co won't think he is main driver.
 
insurers have come across this before and should be accomodating to you. give the company or broker a call.
