calculating interest on loan

Hi,

I was given a loan £6000 (irish pounds) by a family member 5 years ago on the understanding that it could be paid back whenever i was in a position to afford it. I now am and would like to repay the original amount along with whatever interest the person would have earned on it if they had of left it in the bank.

I have searched the archives to see if there is some sort of interest calculator to do this but cant find one. can anyone help.

(You can use the "current bank rate" to input whatever % you wish)

Coming up with the interest rate to use (if not agreed in advance) might be a headache. If no interest agreed then anything over and above should be appreciated.

no interest was mentioned or is expected but i want to repay with interest as it is only fair.
