Hey just a quick question. Does anyone know if you can buy shares in a company from them directly without going through a broker?

I'm guessing it's done but maybe just for folks investing massive amounts?

What about smaller buys of shares?

Only if the company you are investing in also has a stock broking operation. Basically, you can only buy shares through a broker.

Not neccessarily, with some companies you are able to buy directly from them (such as GE: [broken link removed]). AFAIK only big US Corporates seem to offer this kind of service.

Here is a quote from your link:
"The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation is GE's transfer agent and administers all matters related to stock that is directly registered with GE."

As far as I know, only brokers are allowed to transfer shares. Some companies may have some deals with certain brokers for reduced rates. Buying shares directly off a company leaves a gaping hole for fraud.
