Hi all,

I have obtained my 03 form for Optical Benefit and will have my eye test for glasses on Monday. I rang the opticians yesterday to confirm my appointment and advise that I have this form, upon which I was told there would 'be a balance of 25euros for the examination'.

The form clearly states that "The Department will pay the full cost of an eye examination for spectacles only". I do not wish to have contact lenses and explained this to the person, yet she was insistant that this balance was apaplicable.

Can anybody help clarify this situation or am I missing something? Thanks!

Not sure what, if anything, extra is done in an eye examination for contact lenses but I'm pretty sure that in the past all of my eye examinations were covered by PRSI even when I got specs and/or contact lenses. Sounds odd - have you challenged them on it and asked them to explain?

Not yet Clubman - wanted to be sure I had my facts staright before ringing up again. Its not a huge amount of money at all but its more the principle of it. Well know national chain of eye specialists too.

Update: Just rang again and was told that there was no charge at all applicable... seems a little staff training is needed!
