As a young single man, my dad and his friend of similar size bought a suit between them for going on dates.
My parents jointly owned a lawnmower and a ladder with neighbours.
My 2 older brothers had my communion and confirmation suits before me.
I never understood how Santa made secondhand bicycles, it didn't matter though.
Families were bigger but there were no expensive 7 seat SUV’s back then, the family would all fit in an economical Renault 4, the parents in the front, 3 of the kids in the back and the other 2 in the hatchback type boot.

How times have changed.

I buy Lidl or Aldi cheap coffee which is at least 3 times cheaper than the same quantity of branded coffee.
I make a travel mug and a flash or 2 of coffee when setting off to work or on a long drive.

Many on here will not approve but here goes, I break the stalk off broccoli before I weigh it in the supermarket and I have no intention of changing my ways.

I never overpay with coins at a parking meter. I bring small coins. However, I prefer to park outside the area where there are parking meters and just enjoy the walk.

I have a compost heap in my garden.

I don't need to place my side plate or drinking glass or cup in the dishwasher after one use.

I often purchase gardening "stuff" at the end of the summer at a great discount.

I was in Dunnes Stores Blackrock this morning. Bank Holiday weekend. Two cash tills open. Queues down the aisle.

People queuing at customer service desk with groceries, despite self service tills open.

I was overcharged €1 for an item.

I had to queue behind the people with the groceries. Finally got to the customer service person. Just took my item and walked off. Took her time. She arrived back and in total silence opened the till and handed me my own €1 back. "Sorry about that". No explanation, nothing.

This was 10.30 a.m.. I am sure that others had been overcharged at the till for the item before me. I got my €1 back.....others probably didn't or think it was worthwhile to queue for their Euro.

Not the first time.

You can save yourself money by checking your supermarket list after you make a purchase.
