Interested to see what people’s top money saving tips. All the little things add up :)

I’ll go first:
- Use Turkish Netflix to pay around €4 a month
- Readly subscriptions, just use a trial and set up a new account every 3 months :)

What’s”readly subscriptions”

Obvious one perhaps : use leap card
Paying insurance, it’s cheaper yearly

An obvious one but review your yearly contracts with Virgin Media, utility companies, health insurance, telephone contract etc. Lots of people just don't even look at them and the companies rely on that.

Keep an eye on fuel for car as there can be quite a difference in prices especially if your family has a few cars. On occasions I've seen up to 10 cent per litre difference.

If shopping in Dunnes make sure to avail of vouchers.

There are previous threads on this subject on AAM but some of them are dated.

Everyone loves a bargain :)

When you get your renewal notice for car and house insurance, always go online and get a new quote. This is usually cheaper than the renewal quote. Buy the new policy and let the existing one lapse. This works even when you remain with the same insurance company. On the new online quote form, click your existing company and regardless of this being the same you will still get the cheaper quote.

Also check out any insurance discount codes. These are usually available from Onebigswitch, Avantcard rewards, Bord gais rewards and many other sites.

Phone electricity, gas and broadband providers near the end of your contract. Ask for a reduction. If they don't agree to give one, search on bonkers or Onebigswitch for a better deal and at the end of your contract switch to the better deal.

Never be a loyal customer, only active switchers get the good deals.

Groceries: Try own brands they might be as good or might not be as good . Trial and error

That’s more than slightly exaggerated. Not true unless you have a defect device.
Yeah. My ancient Samsung TV is max 85W when on but 0.3W in standby. That's 0.35% not 25%. But, having grown up in the 70s I'm indoctrinated to switch things off at the mains... :D

Give up Netflix for a couple of months & watch the tons of free stuff on channel 4, also the library has most of the latest DVDs, eat less meat, do washing on short cycles at 20c, spin less and air dry in garden. If you've solar panels, on sunny days cook your dinner in the middle of the day , wear fleeces on cold winter nights, turn off heating a hour or 2 before bed, don't buy flavoured yogurts for €3, buy own brand natural yogurt for 70c & add a bit of jam... I'm clutching at straws

Stuck for fresh batteries for your TV remote? Swap the batteries from one contact slot to the other. If you're lucky you'll get an extra 2 or 3 days from them.

Wanna save long-term on alkaline batteries, AA or AAA? Clone your remotes onto your iPhone using the Remote-Pro, TV Remote, or other similar apps. This will also stop squabbles about who has custody of the remote but may contribute to longer-lasting civil wars.

Other brands of mobile phones may be available in your area, eg, in de sticks or on DNS.;)

This is descending into Viz "Top Tips" territory already...
That's the spirit...
