Working Hours

Can an employer change an employees normal working hours(9am-6pm) without their consent? Was looking at entemp.ie but could not find anything specific. Sister in law working in a bar with the above hours but they have now said she is to work whatever hours they decide for less money than she was on previously as she will be on hourly rate rather than salary??? Not sure how they figure this works!!

Further info: Her emplyer has reduced her hourly rate to make it the same as other people doing a similar role as he decided he cant afford to be paying the rates he was!! This seems EXTREMELY dodgy to me??!

She does not have one. Makes the water a little muddier!!

She does have a contract - even if it is not written. But as you say the lack of a written contract does make things a bit awkward. The individual in question should contact Entemp directly to get advice on her statutory rights in this situation. Based on the information that you have posted it sounds like the employer is not acting fairly or possibly legally.
