Hi I was wondering what the answer is. I work 4 days Monday - Thursday and the company were recently given a paid day off as a thank you to all our hard work but it falls on a Friday - am I entitled to a day in lieu off?
Thanks

Open to correction on this, but I would imagine this is similar to bonus payments & it's discretionary rather than an entitlement.

Having said that a prudent manager would ensure you had an equivalent time in lieu.

Thanks Danny you are probably spot on - I could swap my days that week

It’s reasonable that you would expect to be treated the same as your colleagues but there’s no strict entitlement as such.

Your best bet would be to ask your manager if the paid day off in your case can be taken on another day.

Alternatively, they could offer you an extra day’s leave or pay you for the day in question.

Were this a Public holiday falling on a Friday then you'd have an entitlement to a payment of 20% of your working week. That may be an option here but the easiest thing is just ask your employers for an additional day off.

You should definitely ask your manager or HR about getting another day off since the paid day falls on a day you don’t work. Most places try to keep things fair, so they might let you take it on another day or give you an extra day off later.
