Just wondering can anyone advise me on what the salary rate is for an Engineer working in the Middle East (specifically Qatar). I have never worked abroad before so really have absolutely no clue about this and a prosepctive employer has asked me to advise what kind of money I expect.
Looking around, it seems that Car, Holidays, Paid Flights etc. all form part of standard deals as well. Any advice welcome.
Typical package with a local company will include Basic Salary Accommodation or Accommodation allowance Transport or transport allowance Medical 30 calendar days holidays per year One free flight per year.
Bonus
International companies offer better perks as you are treated as an expat. Local companies look at you as a local employee so don't put in the flights, school etc.
My view is you have to look at the total package as what it is worth to you. Not breaking everything down to into each section.
At the end of the day in most cases (depending if you are relocating your family) it is what is in your bank account at the end of the year is most important when you travel
I was in Doha earlier this year and i have to say i found it a great place, was only in it 4 days. It is much easier going than Dubai or Abu Dhabi, saying that I was just returning from Riyadh and was just happy to get a pint!!!
A friend of mine is a mechanical engineer with about 9 years experience, and got a job in Doha on E120k per year plus free accomodation and car with driver.
He also gets some free flights home per year (3 I think). He works 6 days a week for 3 months, and then has 2 weeks off. He has no kids, so I dont know if schools would have been included.
