He already said he is returning the handset.Did you get the handset? Was there a transfer of ownership?
Btw I am returning the phone, that isn't a problem as I am not using it as I have my own phone.
I would imagine that if you have to pay the €1,000 then you are entitled to keep the handset.I am due to give them back the handset and a laptop next week as that has been the most convenient time to handover. There was no transfer of ownership and there won't be as they will have it.

Yes, disgraceful behaviour by the former employer.Very very petty of a company to do this to someone they made redundant.
