Hi
You could have the item custom made exactly as you'd prefer by any cabinet maker. For example
http://www.eccabinets.com/KitchenPages/plate-rack-01.php
I know 150 to 300 Euro may be more than you are prepared to pay but that is what any good cabinet maker will charge for well made, solid wood furniture, otherwise he is undervaluing his work and ripping himself off. Small items are never economical to make which is why they appear expensive.. the principle component is the labour costs.. any item will take at least 6 to 10 hours to design, make, spray finish and deliver. Mass produced furniture coming from economies where the hourly rate is <1 Euro / Hour will obviously be cheaper.
(Example. Materials = 30, labour = 6 x 20 = 120, total 150 + VAT = 180, compare this to what mechanics, plumbers, electricians etc charge)
I own that site and company but I am not trying to advertise here, I am simply trying to raise awareness that cabinet makers still exist and custom furniture can be made to specification and finished in whatever colour. Most people don't seem to realise this.
If you would prefer a well made item in the exact sizes, colours etc you'd prefer I'd suggest you check out furniture.ie for a list of cabinet makers in your area. Then you can have the piece for 10 years and it will look good.
Cheers
Joe
