Wondering about painting fireplace + kitchen cupboards...

Hi all,

recently moved into our new (to us!) house and would really like to revamp the existing fireplace and the kitchen cabinet doors rather than replace them. (Did a search on these topics but couldn't find anything addressing my specific concerns.)

RE: Fireplace - I'm wondering if there is a particular (maybe heat-resistant..?) type of paint that should be used for the mantle? And would it be total madness to be contemplating painting the back panel & hearth with tile paint or something? (The firepace is like the one in [broken link removed] picture.)

RE: Kitchen - I'm worried that my cabinet doors will just look a mess if we try to paint them, as are the ones with a kind of recessed arch design (don't know what the 'technical' term is, but they look like [broken link removed]!) I know a few people on here have painted their kitchen doors with great success but I'm wondering if anyone has tackled these kind of fiddly ones.

Any thoughts welcomed and thanks in advance

We painted our kitchen doors a buttermilk colour and they look
fab! First of all we put on an 'obliterator' or white coverall paint
and then did the colour. our doors were originally a dark 'wooden'
pine with recessed fiddly arches etc. I found that using a small
roller brush on the flat bits and a normal artists paintbrush on
the fiddly bits worked perfect. We kept the knobs as they were
and are planning on changing the worktop to a real wooden one
to complement the wooden knobs. Anyone who has seen it
says it looks like we put in a new kitchen - go for it!
