window millenium updating dvd driver through dos question

i have windows millenium and am trying to update my dvd firmware .the file requires me to update it through dos, trying to make it work through the run command . a dos screen appears ,does nothing but prints up enter ms-dos mode or real-dos mode. what am i doing wrong
